In the archives, the store's history is told in a series of photos broken into five sections. The founder's story comes to black-and-white life under the banner of "Marshall Field, a Retail Legend." In the "State Street" section, a photo of ladies entering the store in 1948 provides a glimpse of the era's well-tailored suits and stylish hats. In a visual history of the store's employees called "From Stockboys to Presidents," former stockboy John Shedd (of aquarium fame) makes a cameo in a group photo from the 1890s, and a litany of "Field's Firsts" offers interesting bits of trivia. Betcha didn't know: Field's was the first department store to offer money-back guarantees, home deliveries, bargain basements and wedding registries.
Across from the photo wall, the famous Field's clock reigns supreme. Check out the one-ton glass replica of the ticking work of art, created by Seattle artisans. Then stock up on an array of Field's paraphernalia, including Frango mints, a Marshall Field's cookbook and a clock-shaped accent lamp from Tiffany.
